Mardi Himal is one of the classical trek of the Annapurna Region. It has always been there and route was popular among the hardcore trekkers and camping groups. After 2011, when teahouses were built en-route, it started to get popular among the teahouse trekkers because of its unbeatable beauty and short duration.

Major highlights of this trek are panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhare and Manaslu range. And major villages you will come across are Pothana, Deurali, Sidhing and Lwang with full of culture and tradition. Since it’s a recently opened route, you will have to accommodate in basic simple teahouses and home stays.

  1. Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m/4593ft)

    Arrive in Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, meet, assist and transfer to hotel. After welcome refreshment and room check in. Eve: Trip briefing followed by welcome dinner at Authentic Nepali restaurant with culture program.

    Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu. (Welcome Dinner Included).

  2. Day 2 Fly to Pokhara (25 mins), Drive to Kande (1 hr); Trek to Pothana (1890m/6200 ft.; 2 hrs)

    After breakfast, transfer to domestic airport for Pokhara Flight. Meet your team Guide, Sherpa and Porters at Pokhara Airport and drive to Kande to start trek and reach Pothana, where we will be staying tonight. Overnight stay at teahouse/lodge in Pothana. (Lunch and Dinner Included).

  3. Day 3 Pothana - Forest Camp (Kokar) (2480m/8135 ft.; 5 hrs)

    After early breakfast, follow the trail through dense forest of Oak, Maple and Rhododendron and Pitam Deurali (2100m) for short break. Now continue trek through dense forest with buzzing sounds of insects and enjoy songs from the birds. Tonight, we stay at Forest Camp which is also called Kokar. Overnight stay in tea-house/lodge at Forest Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

  4. Day 4 Forest Camp - Low camp (3150m/10,335 ft.; 6 hrs)

    As we continue our trek through the thick forest, you will be accompanied by various sounds of insects like Cicadas. The trail continues to get darker despite of sunshine, with damp soil and light smell of decayed leaves and woods. You will definitely experience the walk in wilderness. Tonight stay at low camp. Overnight stay in tea-house/lodge at Low Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

  5. Day 5 Low Camp - High Camp (3700m/12,140 ft.; 4 hrs)

    Today, we start our trek climbing little uphill, eventually the forest gets thin and windows open for the better view of Annapurna south and Hiunchuli. Continue walking on a meadow land along the ridges of Mardi Himal. Tonight at High Camp with spectacular panoramic view of Mountains. Overnight stay in tea-house/lodge at High Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

  6. Day 6 High Camp - Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m/14,765 ft.) - Low Camp (8 hrs)

    After breakfast, hike upto Mardi Himal Base Camp. You will have amazing view of mountains like Mardi Himal (5587m), Annapurna South (7219m) and Annapurna I (8091m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Tent Peak (5695m), Machapuchhre (6993) also called Fishtail. After spending sometime at Mardi Himal base camp, we descend down to High Camp, and further descend down till low camp for overnight stay. Overnight stay at tea-house/lodge in Low Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

  7. Day 7 Low Camp – Kalimati; Drive to Pokhara (7 hrs)

    From Low camp continues descending down till beautiful village called Kalimati. From there we will catch a jeep to Pokhara, ending our trekking. Overnight stay at a hotel in Pokhara. (Breakfast, Lunch & Farewell Dinner Included).

  8. Day 8 Fly back to Kathmandu; Final Departure

    Fly back to Kathmandu from Pokhara airport. Transfer to the airport for final departure. (Breakfast Included).

Dispersal Time & Venue are specified in the Itinerary wherein the time of dispersal at a particular venue is stated. Dispersal time in the itinerary should be considered as an expected time of dispersal and you should take into consideration delays due to traffic, breakdowns, etc. Further your return travel arrangements should take into account the flight reporting time.

This trek is graded as ‘Moderate’. These treks are ideal for adults and children above minimum age of 15. This trek involves walking on well-defined trails for 08 days with daily average walking duration of 6-7 hrs. Net height gain on most of the days would be less than 600m, with the maximum altitude not exceeding 5000m. These tours are physically challenging. Physical fitness is essential & previous walking experience in the outdoors will be helpful.

Pokhara – Kathmandu flights are scheduled in the morning, so you are advised to book your return international flight from Kathmandu after 14:00 hrs.

Cancellation of Kathmandu – Pokhara – Kathmandu Flights

Flights in Kathmandu – Pokhara – Kathmandu sector are subject to weather condition, so it is advised that you should book your return international flight (refundable ticket) 1 day after your final departure date as per itinerary.

In case of extension of the trip due to above you would have to reschedule your return international flights.

For most of the treks in Nepal, especially the Everest and Annapurna region accommodation is in guesthouses. Most of the guesthouses are basic and on twin sharing basis with small neat and clean rooms and common toilets. The toilets may be either inside the lodge or located outside the lodge and at times the cleanliness standards may be lower than those you normally expect. Food is provided from the kitchen of the same guesthouse. Hot (drinking) potable water is not included in our trip cost. At higher altitudes the quality of these guesthouses is not good and the choice of food is limited.

This trek involves walking for 5-6 hours daily at an average pace, but we recommended this trek for people with an extremely good level of physical fitness. The highest altitude that we attain on this trek is 4131m/13,554 ft. We do not recommend this trek to people with chronic problems like epilepsy and those related to blood pressure or heart or Diabetes.

It is mandatory that all participants carry 02 passport size photographs for issuance of permits.

 

  • Baggage allowance of 15 kg is permissible on Kathmandu – Pokhara sector flights.
  • On treks, porters or mules will carry all personal luggage up to a maximum of 15 kg. Guests are expected to carry only a small rucksack while walking to carry all the essentials such as water bottle, extra jackets, camera, pack lunch, etc.
  • The personal luggage along with sleeping bag, Feather jacket should be packed in a duffel bag.
  • If the client wishes to hire a porter so that he can walk along with the client, then an extra porter can be arranged on written request in advance, for which the client must make an extra payment. The cost for an extra porter will be INR 800/- per day. This porter will carry only your daypack (not weighing more than 10 kg) from camp to camp. After reaching the camp he will be free. The request should be made in writing info@countrysideindia.com atleast 10 days prior to the trek date.

On this trek professional medical help will not be available. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are physically fit and able to complete the itinerary of your chosen trek, prior to booking the trek. It would be advisable to speak to your physician if you are unsure of your fitness levels. It would be advisable to speak to the trek leader or representatives from our organisations, who have done the trek earlier. In case you have an existing medical condition or disability you must inform us at the time of booking, in the Personal Information Form and also to the ‘Trek Leader’ at the beginning of the trek. If in our opinion, the selected trek is not suitable for your medical condition, we reserve the right to refuse a booking.

We carry a comprehensive first aid kit as suggested by doctors. In case of any health problems that you may face on the trek, it would be advisable to speak to your Trek Leader / local guides / local representatives. Please note that all these treks are not accompanied by a medical doctor.

These treks are on high altitude where you would be staying at altitudes above 2500m; extra precaution is needed before you acclimatize to these altitudes. Our itineraries’ are designed to enable everyone to acclimatize to these altitudes. However you should be aware that you may still be affected by altitude. If you have any pre-existing medical condition or are unsure about your own physical ability we recommend that you seek medical advice prior to booking. Please find attached herewith a note on high altitude. Also, please discuss your concerns, if any, with our office staff and with the trek leader on the trek. If you are on any personal medication please keep the trek leader informed on the dosage and medication.

Any medical and evacuation expenses incurred for the client will have to be borne by that person only. (All the participants have to keep some contingency amount as a backup at home for this kind of emergency).

Day temperatures average between 15ºC – 27ºC and night temperatures can drop to subzero. However the temperatures would vary a lot depending on the season and altitude.

It is important to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy against illness, hospitalization, flight delays, loss of luggage, cancellations and amendments due to weather conditions, political disturbances or natural calamities as well as emergency helicopter evacuation, etc.

In case you decide to buy any other insurance policy in your home country, please ensure that the policy covers cashless evacuation and covers you for Adventure activities and/or trekking activity above 4000 meters.

This trek is a high altitude trek and the maximum height reached will be approx. 4500m. Acute mountain sickness (AMS) can be caused due to high altitudes. The AMS may be avoided by taking precautions given in the document attached on high altitudes, please read the document carefully. The high altitude can cause Acute Mountain Sickness and may lead to serious critical medical conditions such as cerebral or pulmonary edema.

The weather can change dramatically causing rain, thunder storm, flash floods, cloud burst, snow fall and severe drop in temperatures, causing severe physical hardships.

The local staff such as the guides, porters, etc.; work extremely hard all through the trek. On the trek there are no working hours; they would travel, walk, climb or go through bad weather along with us and still be happy to serve us at any time of the day. So it is expected of the group to contribute a modest amount towards tips and the staff would expect this at the end of their services. We suggest you to contribute INR 2000/- (US$35) per person as a token of gratitude and appreciation. This may be collected by one of the group members and presented to the staff.

Sleeping bag and Feather jackets can be hired on written request, at info@countrysideindia.com, atleast 10 days prior to date of reporting. The same will be provided on arrival at reporting hotel. Rentals for Sleeping Bag & Feather Jacket is INR 100/- per day each plus INR 100/- each for laundry.

To arrange for International Airport transfers we need a written intimation by mail on info@countrysideindia.com along with your arrival / departure flight details such as Flight No., Airline Name, Arrival Time and Trip Name, should reach us atleast 10 days prior to the date of reporting.
