JOURNEY TO THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM– UPPER MUSTANG
24 May to 03 June
Rs. 1,79,900/- per person
The Kingdom of Lo-Manthang, or Mustang, situated at an altitude of 3,770 meters, was once an independent kingdom within Nepal, with its king pledging allegiance to the King of Nepal. While the locals call themselves Laobas—people from Lo—they are deeply rooted in Tibetan culture and practice a sophisticated way of life and economy. The King’s palace, an imposing four-story building at the center of the walled city, was home to the former king, Jigme Parbal Bista. The honorary title ‘Bista,’ a high-caste title in Nepali, was conferred upon him by the King of Nepal. Though his role was largely ceremonial, he was highly respected by the people. Despite the apparent modesty of Lo-Manthang, the city remains prosperous and fosters a strong sense of community.
