Internal transfers and sightseeing will be conducted using Korean vans/county buses in the city, and other travel will be by 4WD minivan. Roughly 15% of Mongolia’s 47,000 km road network is paved, and the rest is dirt. Mongolia’s harsh and extreme climate results in bumpy and cracked paved roads. The dirt roads resemble those found in Africa, with no road signs and minimal traffic, providing a uniquely peaceful experience. They can be bumpy and dusty at times. Since there are no road signs, drivers often stop at the nearest ger (1–3 km) to ask for directions and ensure they are on the correct route. The most suitable vehicles for traveling in Mongolia are 4WD Russian and Japanese jeeps and minivans.
Ger camps consist of 20-50 or more gers with separate restaurant and bathroom blocks. A ger is a Mongolian traditional dwelling made of layers of felt and wooden construction, in which the Mongols have lived since time immemorial. Due to their remoteness, some tourist ger camps may not excel in service, so travellers may not always expect high-pressure showers or gourmet food.
- Regarding the ger camp, clients will be allocated into gers according to their hotel rooming lists. The beds in a ger include double beds, twin beds, triple beds, and even 4-bed gers.
- Toilets are separate from the ger.
- Our ger camp restaurants serve many different meals, including vegetarian options. So, vegetarians do not have any problems travelling in Mongolia.
During the tour, you will be eating at good restaurants in Ulaanbaatar, which offers a great variety of dining options. Once you are outside the capital, you will dine at ger restaurants in ger camps and local cafes in small towns and villages. Ger restaurants often have a set menu, but their food is usually very good. During your driving days, you will have packed lunches from ger camps. Vegetarians are well taken care of in both Ulaanbaatar restaurants and tourist ger camps.
In winter, Mongolian nomadic cuisine centers around dairy products, so following a vegetarian diet is not too problematic. Vegan staples like beans, tofu, and nuts are available year-round, but vegans will mostly be limited to what they cook for themselves and may not be able to share meals with Mongolians for the most part.
We do not recommend this tour for people with chronic conditions such as epilepsy, high blood pressure, or heart problems. Basic exercises like brisk walking or light jogging at least 3-4 months before the tour are recommended.
